De nombreuses personnalités ont participé à la 5ème édition du 10 Km de Port-Gentil, remportée par le Kenyan Vincent Kipkemoi en 28:11 chez les hommes, catégorie Elite. Chez les femmes, sa compatriote Kenyane Béatrice Chekoech a dominé la course, l’achevant en 32:13. En amateur hommes, c’est le Gabonais Franck Apiamessogui qui a terminé premier en 34:39, tandis que sa compatriote Chancia Mimbale a remporté la course chez les dames amateurs avec un temps de 36:25.

Le coureur de fond Britannique multiple champion olympique, mondial et européen, né le 23 mars à Mogadiscio en Somalie, a couru pour la première fois en terre gabonaise et africaine au 10 Km de POG. Alors que tout le monde l’attendait à la première place du podium, la légende britannique, plus proche de sa retraite, a opté pour une course de participation visant à se faire plaisir et surtout à bénéficier de la chaleur et de l’hospitalité légendaire gabonaise. «C’est spécial pour moi d’être ici au Gabon et en Afrique. J’ai vraiment pris plus de plaisir qu’autre chose. C’est un plateau relevé qui est bien considéré dans l’athlétisme» a-t-il déclaré.

Meilleure Gabonaise en amateur depuis l’année dernière sur le 10 Km de POG et vainqueur du Marathon 2022, Chancia Mimbale s’est une fois de plus illustrée en remportant la course des dames en amateur de la 5ème édition du 10 Km de Port-Gentil avec un temps de 36:25, battant ainsi son record personnel de 42 minutes et 8 secondes.

Élu maire de Port-Gentil depuis 2015, Gabriel Tchango ne manque pas d’occasion pour donner un cachet particulier à chaque événement sportif organisé dans sa commune, telle que la 5e édition du 10 km de POG en 2023.

«C’est un sentiment de satisfaction pour nous de voir la ville de Port-Gentil en ébullition avec la participation de 13 000 coureurs et l’organisation réussie de la 5e édition du 10 km de POG. C’est l’occasion pour moi de remercier les populations, les partenaires économiques qui participent à cette grande fête du sport, mais surtout le chef de l’État, Son Excellence Ali Bongo Ondimba, qui nous honore une fois de plus par sa présence ici à Port-Gentil», a déclaré le maire Gabriel Tchango.

Gabonreview : Fin de la 5è édition du 10 KM de POG, qu’est-ce qu’on retient de cette course ?

Johannick Ngomo Obiang : Retenons que le 10 km de Port-Gentil est la plus rapide de l’histoire en Afrique et que cette 5è édition a été marquée avant tout par l’obtention du Label Gold, une première sur le continent. Nous avons eu affaire à un plateau très relevé avec la présence des meilleurs athlètes du moment, dont la légende Mo Farah, champion du monde et médaillé olympique, ce qui prouve la valeur de la course. Comme vous avez pu le constater, il n’a pas gagné pour autant.

Qu’en est-il de la participation des Gabonais à cette 5è édition du 10 km de POG ?

Tout d’abord, je tiens à féliciter l’équipe nationale, toutes les Panthères qui ont couru aujourd’hui. Je suis allé les voir pour les encourager la veille de la course. Aujourd’hui, vous avez vu que chacun a donné le meilleur de lui. La préparation n’était certes pas à 100 %, mais ils ont donné le meilleur d’eux-mêmes. Avec une meilleure préparation, on peut s’attendre à de meilleurs résultats.

En marge du 10 km de POG, vous avez visité avec le ministre des Sports le stade Michel Essongue de Port-Gentil. Dans quel but ?

Le ministre a tenu à voir le stade pour avoir une idée de son état actuel, qui est assez appréciable. Nous allons mettre en place un programme de réhabilitation de tous les stades qui ont accueilli la CAN, afin que le public puisse bénéficier du plaisir de voir leur équipe nationale jouer à Port-Gentil, à Oyem, à Libreville et à Franceville.

Groupe Chaka : la culture s’invite au 10KM de Port-Gentil

Le 10 KM de Port-Gentil est également l’occasion de valoriser les rites et danses socio-culturelles du Gabon. C’est à ce titre que le groupe de danse dénommé Chaka a présenté un panel de ses pas de danse, parmi lesquels le Mibambo, une richesse culturelle issue des rites du Bwiti chez le peuple Puvi.

Créé depuis 2005, le groupe Chaka a la particularité d’inclure des jeunes danseurs âgés de 5 ans et plus, et ne passe pas inaperçu ses costumes originaux en raphia, entre autres matériaux. «Nous sommes ici pour montrer et valoriser les valeurs traditionnelles de notre culture. Avoir des enfants comme danseurs est un moyen de perpétuer nos rites et danses traditionnels à travers eux», a expliqué le leader du groupe, Mve Nang Jean Victor.
