Au terme des trois premiers mois de 2023, les activités extractives sont en baisse de 6,5% par rapport au trimestre précédent au Gabon. Cela est relatif au ralentissement de l’économie mondiale et aux problèmes endogènes. La dernière Note de conjoncture sectorielle du ministère de l’Économie indique tout de même que «l’indice de la production de pétrole s’est redressé de 2% par rapport au quatrième trimestre 2022».

La dernière Note de conjoncture sectorielle produite par la Direction générale de l’Économie et de la Politique fiscale du ministère de l’Économie analyse les performances de l’activité extractive nationale et relève qu’au premier trimestre 2022, elles ont baissé de 6,5% par rapport au trimestre précédent. Un recul corrélé à la mauvaise orientation de l’activité dans la production de manganèse et du gaz naturel et ce, malgré le regain d’activité dans la branche pétrole.

Par contre, souligne ce document, en termes de points de pourcentage, bien qu’en retrait, ces activités extractives ont tout de même gagné 2,5 points sur la période sous revue, passant de -9% au 4e trimestre 2022 à -6,5% au 1er trimestre 2023.

Pour l’indice de la production de pétrole, il s’est redressé de 2% par rapport au quatrième trimestre 2022. «Malgré le respect des quotas édictés par l’Opep+, cette performance a été réalisée grâce à une production des champs sans interruption (dysfonctionnements ou arrêts programmés)», précise la Note qui ajoute que «le bon rendement des puits s’explique également par les efforts d’investissement antérieurs réalisés par les opérateurs».

Quant au manganèse, dans la continuité du quatrième trimestre 2022, sa production a chuté de 29,7% en glissement trimestriel. Cela s’explique par la rupture de la voie ferrée intervenue le 24 décembre 2022 ayant obligé les opérateurs situés au-delà du lieu de l’incident à baisser très fortement leur activité, faute de pouvoir évacuer le minerai. «Cet accident est venu exacerber une situation déjà marquée par une pénurie de carburant et une faible disponibilité de wagons pour l’évacuation du minerai», explique le document.

S’agissant du gaz naturel, la production a baissé de 2,8% par rapport au dernier trimestre 2022. La Note de conjoncture sectorielle fait savoir que cette baisse est en lien avec les soucis opérationnels enregistrés par le principal opérateur. En glissement annuel, la production de gaz naturel n’a reculé que de 1,4%.
