La Commission Bancaire de l’Afrique Centrale (COBAC), gendarme du bon fonctionnement des banques et établissements de microfinance dans les six pays membres de la Communauté économique et monétaire de l’Afrique centrale (CEMAC) aura bientôt un super siège dans la capitale gabonaise.

Mardi, le président de la Transition gabonaise, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguéma a posé la première pierre de l’immeuble qui sera érigé sur plus de 16000 mètres carrés, 50 mètres de hauteur. Il sera composé d’un immeuble de 7 étages comprenant 150 bureaux, 400 postes de travail, une salle de restauration, une médiathèque, une infirmerie et une salle de sport entres autres commodités.

Ce bâtiment situé à proximité du siège national de la Banque des Etats de l’Afrique centrale (BEAC) sera alimenté énergie solaire à partir de 504 panneaux photovoltaïques.

La cérémonie symbolique de pose la première pierre a vu la participation du Vice-Président de la Transition, des membres du gouvernement, des autorités municipales de la commune de Libreville, des commissaires de la COBAC, des directeurs d’établissements bancaires, de crédits et de micro finances.

Institution spécialisée de la CEMAC, la COBAC est un organe créé le 16 octobre 1990 par les Etats de l’Afrique Centrale dans un contexte de restructuration du système bancaire et de réforme du dispositif de surveillance des établissements de crédits.

La décision d’implanter le siège de l’institution au Gabon avait été prise à l’issue de la Conférence des Chefs d’Etat de la CEMAC qui s’était tenue à Malabo en Guinée Equatoriale le 25 juin 1999.

Les six Etats membres de la CEMAC sont le Cameroun, la Centrafrique, le Congo Brazzaville, le Gabon, la Guinée Equatoriale et le Tchad.
